Dar charity cycling, race, project 650m/-

Dar Rotary Marathon
Organisers of the Rotary Marathon which will be staged in Dar es Salaam on   October 14 have projected to raise 650m/- to be channeled to the entrepreneurship and resource center of the University of Dar es Salaam.

The funds will be used by the centre for refurbishment of its buildings and related facilities according to chairman of Dar Rotary Marathon Vikash Shah.

Shah said so far a total of 15m/- has been set aside to cater for prize package of the eventual winners of both athletics and cycling event for the day.

Shah said they expect many top local and international athletes and cyclists to compete at the event.

He said so far athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda have confirmed to participate at the event.

Shah who declined to provide prize package breakdown for the winners at the event, said only top ten winners in 21.0 kilometre half marathon, top three cyclists in nine kilometre and a winner in five kilometre walk are eligible to receive cash prizes.

‘For now I cannot give a breakdown of money which individuals will get, we expect to do that soon,’ he said.

In related development, women group of  Shree Hindu Mahila Mandal donated 1m/- to the marathon funds’ pool.

Shah thanked women donors saying it will help the organisers to realise the intended 650m/- target.
‘We have so far raised 501m/-, it’s our hope that by October we will raise the targeted 650m/-, ’he said.

The chairperson of the group Ranjanbala Patel said they feel proud and privileged to be associated with the Marathon which she said is doing well.

‘The women group of Shree Hindu Mandal’s main goal is to reach to the needy people in the society and help them by provide food stuffs, giving scholarships to the needy students and also provide medicine to the needy sick people, we raised this money and hope that it will help the Dar Rotary Club to realise some of their targets this year, ‘she said.
